I am a dane who has lived 15+ happy years in Portugal and I am here to stay. I met my portuguese wife in 2010 and I love this country for all its fine things (the people, the culture, the history, the way of life, the food, the laid back realtionship with speed limits the the the….. many things!) Sometimes I also hate it for the things we also have to deal with: The bureaucracy. The inequality. The corruption and incompetence. Guess ya just can’t have it all… 😉
One day my wife and I found our lives had been turned upside down. Instead of being two people with a rather laid-back and flexible life style (we are both self-employed and use to make our own schedules) – we now have three lovely children filling the house, our minds and the calendar with joy, noise, challenges, laughter and an endless todo-list of things we cannot forget.
We have been introduced to the Social Security system (who deals with kids in danger, orphanages, adoptions etc), the educational system, sparetime activities, parental software on the computers, bulk purchases of milk, fruit and food in general, doctors appointments, band-aids, McDonald (that one I could happily live without), all the playgrounds, adventure parks and swimmingpools within a 50 km radius, our own fear of “do we know how to deal with this” and a lot more…..
It has been and still is, a crazy and wonderful adventure. Not a day goes by without loving the life we have now – accompagnied by the occasional “did we make the right decision when going for three Duracell-driven hyperactive kids”. Of course it is.
One day I thought of noting down some things here and there, in order to not forget it. Also so they kids can dig down into history some day if they feel like it. And who knows maybe it can even be a help to others who consider going down the road of adoption?
So I made this blog. Due to the sensitive nature, it does not show or name the kids, but focuses on our experiences as parents – with all the new stuff we face in our life as a family of five. I hope you enjoy it. If you have any questions, shoot me a message on the contact page. Enjoy!
